Insurance for a tropical holiday

Travel World for a winter trip from Poland to warm countries, such as Egypt, Thailand, the Dominican Republic or Zanzibar. The price depends on which zone the country is in: Egypt and the Canary Islands are in the European zone, most tropical countries in the zone “World without the USA, Mexico, Canada, Japan and Australia”, and Mexico in the most expensive zone, with the USA.

What the policy covers in the tropics

  • Hospital treatment without paying up front

    The TU Europa Assistance Centre gives the hospital a guarantee of payment, so the hospital settles the bill with the insurer. Call as soon as possible, and no later than 72 hours. In every plan.

  • Transport to Poland, no limit

    From the VIP plan upwards, a medical flight back to Poland does not reduce the medical sum insured. In Standard Plus, transport from Asia or the Caribbean comes out of the same EUR 100,000 as treatment.

  • Tropical diseases and food poisoning

    The General Terms do not exclude tropical diseases as a group: malaria, dengue or food poisoning are covered like any sudden illness, unless they are connected with a declared epidemic. In every plan.

  • Vaccination after a bite

    Vaccinations are not refunded, except preventive vaccination against tetanus and rabies, for example after a dog or monkey bite. In every plan.

  • Delayed suitcase

    If the carrier delivers your baggage at least 5 hours late, TU Europa refunds the cost of essential clothes and toiletries: up to EUR 150 in VIP and VIP Plus, up to EUR 200 in The Best. Also on charter flights.

  • Delayed scheduled flight

    In VIP Plus and The Best, if the airline cancels a flight or delays it by more than 5 hours, TU Europa refunds up to EUR 200 for toiletries, clothes and food not paid by the carrier. Not for charter flights.

The zone decides the price

The General Terms assign every country to one of three zones. The zone determines the premium and which plans are available.

Egypt and the Canary Islands

Zone: Europe and the Mediterranean

Also Madeira, Morocco and Tunisia.

Thailand and the Dominican Republic

Zone: World without the USA, Mexico, Canada, Japan and Australia

Zone: World with the USA, Mexico, Canada, Japan and Australia

Cancún and the Riviera Maya are in the same zone as the USA.

When you are not covered

  • Illness connected with a declared epidemic. The General Terms exclude treatment, rescue, transport and assistance connected with an epidemic of an infectious disease or a pandemic other than COVID-19, declared for example by the authorities of the country, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the WHO.
  • Missing vaccination required for entry. If a country requires a vaccination, for example against yellow fever, and you do not have it, the costs of treatment resulting from this are excluded. Vaccinations that are only recommended do not affect the cover.
  • Scooter or quad without a licence. If you drive without the required licence, or drive while drunk (more than 0.5 per mille in the blood), an accident is not covered in any plan, even on a scooter hired on an island. Passengers on a scooter, in a tuk-tuk or in a taxi are covered.
  • Diving deeper than 18 m. Scuba diving to 18 m is covered in every plan. Deeper diving, wreck diving and freediving are extreme sports and need an extension, available from the VIP plan.
  • Your home country. Travel World does not cover Poland or your country of permanent residence, which for a foreigner living in Poland also includes the country of citizenship.

Going to Zanzibar? The island requires its own compulsory insurance (ZIC), which can only be bought through the Zanzibar government’s system. A policy from Poland does not replace it; you can buy Travel World as a second policy with a higher medical sum and transport to Poland.

Questions before a trip to the tropics

Why is insurance for Egypt cheaper than for Thailand?

In the Travel World General Terms, Egypt belongs to the zone “Europe and the Mediterranean”, and Thailand to the zone “World without the USA, Mexico, Canada, Japan and Australia”. You choose the zone in the purchase form according to the country you travel to.

Am I covered after drinking alcohol at an all-inclusive hotel?

Yes, in all five plans: the General Terms provide “cover for people under the influence of alcohol”. It does not apply when you drive a vehicle while drunk (more than 0.5 per mille in the blood or 0.25 mg/dm³ in exhaled air), and liability does not cover damage caused while drunk.

Can I buy the insurance when I am already there?

Yes, but the cover starts on the 3rd day after the contract is concluded and the premium is paid (General Terms § 5 sec. 11). If you buy it before departure, cover starts when you cross the Polish border.

I live in Poland. Does it cover a holiday in my home country?

No. For a foreigner living in Poland, the General Terms also treat the country of citizenship as a country of permanent residence, and Travel World does not cover it (§ 1 pt 11).
